About Balkan Lynx Adventures

You want the raw, untouched wilderness of the Balkans—but you refuse to sleep in a crowded bunkhouse.

Most operators on the Peaks of the Balkans force you to compromise. You get breathtaking views, but you pay for it with friction: shared bathrooms, rigid group schedules, someone else’ pace, and exhausting logistics.

We built Balkan Lynx Adventures for the exact opposite approach.

The Missing Piece in the Market

As the Accursed Mountains' popularity has grown, standard commercial tour operators have flooded the market—and they are doing it wrong. They pack discerning travelers into large groups with strangers, send them on crowded trails and force them into generic, shared accommodations and feed them the same meal each night. We created Balkan Lynx Adventures to step in and fill the glaring luxury void.

We eliminate the effort and sacrifice of remote mountain travel so you can experience Europe's last wild frontier in uncompromising luxury. You hike. We handle the rest.

Why trust us?

Because we literally helped lay the foundation for the trail you are walking on.

The story of BLA begins decades before the company was founded. The 192-kilometer Peaks of the Balkans trail network didn't just appear—it was built on the back of relentless cross-border peacebuilding, and our founders were some of the original architects.

    Fatos Lajqi

Born and raised in the heart of the Accursed Mountains, Fatos is a lifelong conservationist, educator and environmental policy activist. As the founder of the Environmentally Responsible Action Group, he led the historic "Long Walk for Peace" in 2003; and integrated environmental education into Kosovo’s elementary school curriculum nation wide. He also leads Western Kosovo’s participation in the Balkan Lynx Recovery Programme; the European Brown Bear Monitoring Programme; and the Mountain Goat Monitoring Programme. As Co-Founder of Balkan Lynx Adventures, Fatos is the visionary behind our deep-mountain access. He leverages his lifelong community ties and standing as the region’s foremost "Forest Guardian" to secure you elite, private access and unique trail routes that remain hidden to standard commercial tours.

    Parësim Sanaja

    LOGISTICS & FIELD SPECIALIST

Parësim is a rising field technician in Balkan wildlife conservation and a vital force behind the BLA experience. Working on the frontlines of the Balkan Lynx Recovery Programme, he has spent years in the deep wilderness of Bjeshkët e Nemuna National Park, mastering the terrain that others only see from a distance. In 2015, he was part of the team that made history by capturing the first-ever photographic proof of the critically endangered Balkan lynx in Kosovo. At BLA, Parësim is the heartbeat of our field operations—managing our logistics, basecamp, and ground support with the precision of someone who knows every square mile of the trail. He is the person who ensures that when you arrive, the mountain is ready for you

    Todd Walters

    U.S. DIRECTOR

Todd is a NOLS-certified guide, Wilderness First Responder (WFR), and veteran of 15+ years of Balkan exploration. After becoming one of the first non-military Americans to navigate the region’s rugged tri-border boundaries on foot, he dedicated his career to founding International Peace Park Expeditions and running it for decade partnering with local organizations in-country and US based Universities to run study abroad programs in the Balkans, and other locations globally. Todd also brought volunteer programs to the most remote valleys. He helped fund and lead crucial early infrastructure projects, such as building bridges and identifying and GPS mapping hiking trails in villages like Theth. Todd now serves as the Director of Balkan Lynx Adventures’s U.S. operations, ensuring every expedition is backed by American-grade financial regulations, global liability insurance, legal accountability, and the robust safety protocols required by our most discerning international clients.

For years, Fatos and Todd worked to improve the region's ecotourism, conservation, and local community development. Their early cross-border treks, community engagement, and trail identification and GPS Mapping laid the crucial groundwork for what would become the Peaks of the Balkans network—a trail that evolved to win the World Travel and Tourism Council’s Top Sustainable Destination award.

Flawless Logistics & US-Standards

To guarantee absolute perfection in your experience, the team brought in Parësim Sanaja. Parësim is a dedicated conservationist who for years supported Fatos’s environmental efforts within the ERA group and the transboundary Balkan Lynx Recovery Programme. He was an essential part of the ERA team—led by Fatos—that captured the historic first photographs of the critically endangered Balkan lynx in Kosovo.

Beyond his local mountain expertise, Parësim brings critical operational skills to BLA. After years of living in the Bronx, New York, where he worked as a licensed plumber and supported his family in Peja, Parësim has returned to Kosovo. He brings his US-honed technical trade skills ontop of his conservation knowledge, technical camera trapping skills, and knowledge of Bjeshket e Nemuna National Park directly to our operations. Parësim is the reason we can confidently guarantee what no other operator can: perfectly functioning facilities, hot showers, and seamless execution in some of the most remote alpine environments in Europe.
